Ceremony of Commemorative Stamp to mark the occasion of National Meelad Un Nabi Celebrations 2022

The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Department of Posts, organized the releasing of Commemorative Stamp to mark the occasion of Meeladun Nabi celebration for 2022.

The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs had arranged for National Meeladun Nabi celebration for 2022 at Jamiah Naleemiah Institute in Beruwala with the assistance of and the Board of Management of Jamiah Naleemiah Institute, Mosque Society of Chinafort Mosque and Gem and Jewellery Traders Association of Chinafort Beruwala on 9th October 2022 under the leadership of Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

Due to some technical difficulties, releasing of Commemorative Stamp was delayed. The releasing ceremony of Commemorative Stamp was held on 14th December 2022, under the leadership of Hon Ali Sabry, P.C. Minister of Foreign Affairs, and with the participation of Hon. Hafiz Naseer Ahamed, Minister of Environment, Hon. Shantha Bandara, State Minister for Mass Media, Hon. Kather Masthan, State Minister of Rural Development, Hon. Musharaff, Member of Parliament and Mr. Somarathne Vidanapathirana, Secretary, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affair.

The Department of Posts published first commemorative Stamp to honour the Muslim community in 1968 on the occasion of Islamic New Year, Hijri 1400 years. The first commemorative stamp to mark the Meeladun Nabi celebration was published by the Department of Posts in 2016 and in the years 2017, 2018 and 2021. The event was attended by the Post Master General, Mr. Ranjith Ariyaratne, Board of Management of Jamiah Naleemiah Institute and religious dignitaries representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam and several other prominent members of the Muslim Community.

The programme commenced with recitation of Qirath (verses of Holy Quran) by Al Hafilah Al Qariah Nuha Nuwman.

Mr. Ibrahim Ansar, Director, Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs made welcome speech. Hon. Somaratne Vidanapathirana, Secretary, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs made a speech on behalf of the Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

Hon. Ali Sabry, P.C. Minister of Foreign Affairs made the keynote speech at the event. Ash Sheik Agar Mohamed, Rector Jamiah Naleemiah Institute made the religious speech.

The Students of Muslim Ladies College sang Qaseedha.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Ash Sheik Al-Haj A.H.M Ihsanudeen, Member of China Fort Mosque Society.

The celebration ended with Dua Salawath recited by Ash Sheikh Hassen Moulana and tea refreshments were provided to all the participants.
