Muslim Charities Fund

The Muslim Mosques and Charitable Trusts or ‘’Wakf Act’ states that there shall be a fund administered by the Wakf Board of Sri Lanka. In accordance to that The Muslim Charities Fund was established and all the mosques, shrines, trusts shall be make a contribution from the net income of the religious institution after the thirty first day of each month. A contribution at the rate of 6% from the mosques and 10% from shrines and trust should be paid to the Director to be credited to the fund.

The board may invest the money of this fund for all or any of the following purposes;

  • Building, restoration and maintenance of mosques
  • Relief of poverty among Muslims
  • The advancement of the education of the Muslims
  • The advancement of Islam generally
  • Any other purpose beneficial to Muslims
