Mosque Sanitation Management Awareness Workshop![]()

An awareness program on mosque sanitation management was conducted for mosque trustees with the support of Social Roots Sri Lanka. The program was organized by the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs on the 22.01.2025 via a Zoom meeting.![]()

As the first phase, over 100 trustees from mosques in the Ampara District participated in this program.![]()

The session was conducted under the guidance of the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr. M.S.M. Nawas, with the contributions of Assistant Director Mr. M.S. Ala Ahmad, Wakfs Section Head Mr. A.S.M. Javid, Ampara District Officer Moulavi Subaideen, and other Divisionala incharge officers of DMRCA. The program was coordinated by Mr. M.I.M. Rizwan, the Chairman of Social Roots Sri Lanka.![]()

The awareness workshop was divided into two main topics: the medical and health importance of sanitation management, and maintaining cleanliness from a religious perspective.![]()

Dr. Sanoos Kariyappar, the Medical Officer in Charge of Sainthamaruthu Hospital, provided guidance on the medical and health aspects of sanitation management, while Senior Lecturer Dr. M.R.M. Rizvi (Majidi) from the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Eastern University, delivered insights on cleanliness as prescribed in Islam.![]()

The keynote address was delivered by the Chairman of Social Roots Sri Lanka, Mr. M.I.M. Rizwan, while the Assistant Director, Mr. Ala Ahmad, spoke on behalf of the department.![]()

The grand closing ceremony of the Second Holy Quran Memorization Final Competition was held on the 20th of January 2025 at the prestigious Galle Face Hotel in Colombo. The event was a magnificent occasion, graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Hon. Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senavi, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, who attended as the guest of honor.![]()

Adding to the event's prestige, His Excellency Khalid Hamoud Al-Kahthani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Sri Lanka, also graced the occasion.![]()

Also present were His Excellency Saud Olaibi Alghamdi, Undersecretary to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, along with numerous ministers, members of parliament, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Sri Lanka.![]()

During the ceremony, 24 outstanding students were honored for their remarkable achievements in Quran memorization, reflecting the competition's mission to inspire and promote Quranic scholarship.![]()

Sri Lanka signed the agreement for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage on 11th January 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed by the Sri Lankan delegation, headed by the Hon. Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, and the Hon. Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Abdulfattah Bin Sulaiman Mashat. This agreement signals a commitment by both governments to enhance the pilgrimage experience for Sri Lankan Muslims.![]()

Hon. Minister Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, who is visiting Saudi Arabia at the invitation of the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, emphasized the Sri Lankan government's focus on improving the Hajj experience for its citizens during the bilateral meeting held preceding to the signing. He shared plans for streamlining Hajj operations in the future, aiming for a smoother and more efficient pilgrimage process.![]()

Hon. Minister Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi is also scheduled to meet with Dr. Tawfiq Fawzan Alrabiah, the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, and engage with Hajj service providers. The delegation will also visit Madinah, the Holy Prophet’s city, as well as important cultural sites in Jeddah and Madinah. Minister also had interaction with the Sri Lankan community in Jeddah.![]()

Commemorating the Ratnapura Mosque, the Ratnapura Jannath Mosque, and the Balangoda Mosque, a commemorative postal stamp was issued during the event.![]()

The event took place on Thursday (26th) at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Auditorium under the leadership of Ratnapura District Secretary Vasantha Gunaratne and the guidance of the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, M.S.M. Nawas. Hon. T. Sunil Rajapaksha, Member of Parliament from the National People's Power, participated as the chief guest.![]()

This year marked the 40th National Meelad-un-Nabi celebration organized annually by the department. The event honored 425 students from Muslim schools in the Ratnapura District who excelled in competitions such as Qaseeda, Qira'ath, essay writing, and public speaking, with certificates and prizes awarded to them. The celebration also featured traditional Islamic art and cultural performances, adding vibrancy to the occasion.![]()

The recent severe flood disaster in the country has disrupted normal life in several regions, causing extensive damage to properties worth millions of rupees. Among the many tragic incidents during this period, the untimely demise of six madrasa students in the Mavadippalli accident has deeply saddened the nation.![]()

Acting on the recommendation of the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr. M.S.M. Nawas, the Wakf Board of Sri Lanka and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs jointly allocated six lakh rupees from the Muslim Charities Fund to support the grieving families. The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Hajj and Umrah Committee would like to inform that applications were called for selection of eligible Hajj Travel Operators for taking pilgrims for Hajj pilgrimage for 2025(Hijri-1446). 122 Hajj Travel Operators had applied for it. ![]()

The interview for selecting Hajj Operators, based on established selection criteria, was held between 14th and 18th October 2024 at the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs. ![]()

88 Hajj Travel Operators who have obtained marks 50 and above at the interview, are selected for taking pilgrims for Hajj-2025. Their list is given below. ![]()

எதிர்வரும் 2024.09.21 ஆம் திகதி நடைபெறவுள்ள ஜனாதிபதி தேர்தலில் வாக்களிக்க பள்ளிவாசல்களில் பணிபுரியும் இமாம்கள், முஅத்தின்கள் மற்றும் பணியாளர்களுக்கு தேர்தலில் வாக்களிக்கச் செல்ல அனுமதி மறுக்கப்பட்டது தொடர்பாக முறைப்பாடுகள் கிடைக்கப்பெற்றுள்ளன.![]()

அதன்பின்னர் இவ்விடயம் சம்பந்தமாக பல முறை பல முயற்சிகள் இடம்பெற்றிருந்தது. இவ் முயற்சிகள் அனைத்தும் கைகூடாமல் போனமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. தற்போது புதிதாக திணைக்களத்தின் பணிப்பாளராக கடமையை பொறுப்பேற்றுள்ள திரு. Following a hiatus since 2019, during which several attempts to restart the registration process were unsuccessful, we are excited to announce that, thanks to the relentless efforts of Director Mr. M.H.A.M. The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Budhdhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, and the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, organized the “Dates Officially Handing Over Ceremony-2024” on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the DMRCA Conference Hall. This event was graced by the Chief Guest, His Excellency Khalid Hamoud Al-Kahtani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka. His Excellency Ameer Ajwad Ambassador designate to Saudi Arabia, Mr.Somarathne vithana Pathitana, the Secretary to the Ministry of Budhdhasasana, Religious Affairs, Mr.Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Harbi, representative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, who were the Special Guest of Honors, officials of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia-Sri Lanka, distinguished invitees, and several others attended the event.![]()
The event was presided over by Mr. Z. A. M. Faizal, the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs. The program began with Qirath. Mr. N. Nilofer, Assistant Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, made the welcoming remarks.![]()
His Excellency, Mr. Ameer Ajwad, the Ambassador Designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said in his brief speech that the Kingdom has been with Sri Lanka in good and bad times. He further added that Ambassador AlKahtani is one of the best ambassadors Sri Lanka has ever had, which would strengthen bilateral relations between both countries to new heights.![]()

The Government of Saudi Arabia has granted a quota of 3500 pilgrims from Sri Lanka this year. The Saudi Government has also introduced more facilities and new guidelines for the benefit of the Hajj pilgrims and the Hajj Travel Operators who would be taking pilgrims for Hajj pilgrimage this year. ![]()

Hon. Minister had a bilateral meeting with His Excellency the Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, Hon. Minister of Budhdasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs further made a request to increase the Hajj quota for SriLanka and to provide additional Besa( Free Movement Passes) to be distributed among Hajj Travel Operators to enable them to assist and guide the Hajj pilgrims during the pilgrimage. He also requested the Minister of Hajj and Umrah to grant permission for Foreign passport holders of Sri Lankan origin to perform Hajj under the quota allocated for Sri Lanka. His Excellency the Minister of Hajj and Umrah assured that the Hajj and Umrah Ministry would consider the proposals of the Hon. The National Meelad program that was arranged on this occasion was graced by Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka, Minister of Buddasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Hon. It is a great privilege for me to extend my greetings on the occasion of the National Milad-un-Nabi festival, as I always seek harmony between nations, different religions and different cultures.![]()
I regard it as an urgent need for all of us Sri Lankans to pay special attention to the basic principles of peace, harmony, non-hatred and sacrifice in simply introducing the activities of the Prophet who introduced Islam to the world for the benefit of the people regardless of religion, political parties or caste and gender.![]()
Such opportunities will help the Muslim people, who have been working in Unity and harmony with the Sinhalese and other races of Sri Lanka since time immemorial, to further promote it. On the occasion of this National Milad festival, let us all remember that all the people living all over Sri Lanka should not be divided and move forward for the victory of Mother Sri Lanka.![]()

முஹம்மத் நபி அவர்களுக்கு 40 வயதாக இருந்தபோது இறைவன் நபியாகத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தான். மேலும் அவர் இஸ்லாத்தின் இறுதி நபி என்று அறியப்படுகிறார். இறைகட்டளைகளை பின்பற்றி மக்களை நல்வழிப்படுத்துவது அவரின் போதனைகளாக இருந்தது. இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்கள் நபிகள் நாயகத்தின் போதனைகளை பின்பற்றி நல்லதொரு சமுதாயத்தை கட்டியெழுப்ப இனம், மதம், சாதி அல்லது வேறு எந்த வேறுபாடும் இல்லாமல் முன்னோடியாக செயற்படுவது தேசத்தின் பாக்கியம் எனலாம். ![]()
வருடாந்தம் கொண்டாடப்படும் நபிகள் நாயகத்தின் பிறந்தநாளை முன்னிட்டு மனமார்ந்த நல்வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்வதுடன், தீவிரவாதம் இல்லாமல் மிதமான வழியில் அமைதி மற்றும் தியாகத்துடன் நாம் அனைவரும் ஒன்றிணைந்து சிறந்த புரிந்துணர்வுடன் பணியாற்ற வேண்டும். சகோதரத்துவத்தை அதிகப்படுத்தி நபியவர்களின் போதனைகளால் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட நல்ல சமுதாயத்தை உருவாக்கும் உன்னதப் பணியை நிறைவேற்றுவது தற்போதைய இலங்கை சமூகத்தின் பொறுப்பாகும்.![]()

When Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was 40 years old, Almighty Allah chose him as the Prophet, and he is known as the last Prophet of the Islamic Religion. The religious masters will come down to the world for the benefit of the entire society, and it can be called the fortune of the nation that the Sri Lankan Muslim people take the lead in building a good society by working according to the teachings of the Prophet who came down, regardless of caste, religion, caste or any other distinctions.![]()

We extend our heartfelt warm greetings to the annual celebration of the birth of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and it is the responsibility and accountability of the current Sri Lankan society to achieve the noble task of creating a good society as introduced by the teachings of the Prophet by maximizing brotherhood, peace and sacrifice in a moderate way without extremism. மேற்படி போட்டியானது முஸ்லிம் சமய பண்பாட்டலுவல்கள் திணைக்களத்தின் கீழ் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட பாடசாலைகளில் (அறபுக் கல்லூரிகள் மற்றும் ஹிப்ழ் மத்ரஸாக்கள்) கல்வி கற்கும் மாணவர்களிடமிருந்து விண்ணப்பங்கள் கோரப்பட்டு 240 மாணவர்களின் விண்ணப்பங்கள் பெறப்பட்டதுடன் மொக்கம் 08 பிரிவுகளின் கீழ் (ஆண்கள் 04 பிரிவுகள், பெண்கள் 04 பிரிவுகள்) 15.07.2023ம் திகதி கொழும்பு மூவென்பிக் ஹோட்டலில் போட்டிகள் நடாத்தப்பட்டன.![]()

Sri Lankan hajj pilgrim, Alhaj Abdul Majeed Mohamed Nijam who had come to Makkah to perform Hajj this time with the Sri Lankan Hajj Travel Group namely Rashadi Travels, passed away due to heart attack when he was coming from Jamrath after throwing the stone at Jamrath. ![]()

He was taken to Hospital immediately but on the way he passed away. He is resident of Panagamuwa, Kurunegala and owner of Ibnagamuwa Fuel Filling Station. ![]()

The Saudi Authorities have now confirmed that the Janaza will be taken to Masjidul Haram for Janaza prayers after Isha prayers on Friday, 30th June 2023 and that the Janaza will be buried in Makkah. ![]()
